The original meaning of Trivet was a three-legged stand. Today it refers to anything that is placed between a hot saucepan or frypan or serving dish or bowl and a tabletop. Usually to protect the tabletop from heat damage. This is the Yuka trivet which is made from a thin slice of Teak log that is cut neat and square. The end grain surfaces are tough and hardwearing and display the beauty of the growth rings of a Teak tree. Curved steel handles are glued into two edges of the trivet allowing it to be grabbed and transported easily -just what is necessary to make this item totally functional.
