Natural Teak color and bright white paint go together so well, as you can see with some items from our bowl collection. We decided to incorporate the same effect into some of our other utensils, and you see the result here. These salad servers get their elegant shape from the diligent handwork of skilled craftsmen who can produce this wonderful form completely by eye. The Teak workers of Central Java are masters of their craft and that is clear to see in the photos here. Once shaped, they are sanded super-smooth, white paint is applied to the handle section and food grade mineral oil is applied to the rest of the handle and the bowl. This oil will seal the wood and protect it, and your salad servers can be easily maintained by additional coats of mineral oil, or even a wipe over with some cooking oil from your kitchen. The Bistro spatula set is a two-piece Teak spatula set with contrasting black handles. Handmade from the resilient and hard-wearing hardwood, these spatulas have thin but strong blades with nice smoothly rounded edges throughout. Sanding down through several grades of sandpaper guarantees smoothness before black paint is applied to the handle section, and the rest is treated to coats of food-grade mineral oil. Simple white paint is one of our favorite finishes here at Rico & Plato because we love the way it contrasts the golden brown of Teak. In this instance we have used it to paint the handle portion of our Bistro spatula. The spatulas themselves have broad, flat blades with rounded corners and edges which make them supremely comfortable to use while they carry out their basic task of pot stirring and cake mix folding. Experienced craftsmen shape the spatulas by hand from single pieces of Teak, and that experience means they know the best way to get the strongest and most beautiful implement from the raw material. After careful sanding the white paint and a food-safe mineral oil are applied, providing a long lasting and easy to maintain finish.
